Throughout my time at LSU, I shared frustration with other students for the lack of an on-campus organization specific to criminal justice reform. In spite of this, several of us banded together to establish Tiger Prison Project. Since our fruition, we have partnered with several like-minded groups to connect LSU students with local reform efforts, educational workshops, and other opportunities for policy advocacy.
Some of the work our members do include monthly workshops with Louisiana Parole Project in which students tutor recently released juvenile lifers on various professional skills; volunteer events with Connections for Life, a non-profit that assists previously incarcerated women with re-entry and transitional housing; and events with Voice of the Experienced to assist with phone-banking and GOTV initiatives.

Fall 2019 Welcome Week
Me and Gabrielle Milford, Vice President, tabling at the Fall 2019 Welcome week. Here we talked to several new students about the start of Tiger Prison Project, our club’s mission and goals for the year.

First General Meeting
Tiger Prison Project’s first general meeting. We hosted a guest speaker, Andrew Hundley, to talk about how students can get involved with Louisiana Parole Project and advocate for juvenile lifers in Baton Rouge.

LPP Workshop
One of our partnerships is with Louisiana Parole Project, a non-profit that seeks to assist the re-entry process of juvenile lifers in Louisiana. TPP members host biweekly workshops for LPP clients to learn various professional skills including Microsoft Office proficiency and resume building.
